No Limits Youth to Fight Big Tobacco at Annual Summit

Lincoln, NE (AP) - No Limits, Nebraska’s youth-led tobacco prevention movement, is now accepting applications for the No Limits Summer Summit, May 29–31 at the University of Nebraska Kearney. Youth ages 12–18, in grades 7–12, will learn about ways the tobacco industry deceptively markets its products to teens. No Limits members will explore strategies to share anti-tobacco information in their own communities. The Summer Summit helps participants improve communication and leadership skills as they join together to reduce tobacco use among their fellow teens.

No Limits Youth Board members chose “New Mask, Same Villain” as the theme for the summit. Sessions will examine the tobacco industry’s “new mask” of deceptive tactics used to influence more young people to use tobacco.

“The tobacco industry continues to develop products designed to appeal to youth,” said Molly Kincaid, No Limits project coordinator. “At the No Limits Summer Summit participants learn how to work together to fight Big Tobacco’s manipulative marketing.”

Experts in tobacco prevention and activism tactics will share their knowledge through hands-on experiences. Youth participants will plan and participate in an anti-tobacco industry activism event on May 31, which is World No Tobacco Day.

“No Limits has helped me grow as a leader,” said Sheri Crosier, No Limits Youth Board member. “The No Limits Summer Summit empowers youth to have a positive impact across Nebraska.”

The No Limits Summer Summit is free and includes transportation to Kearney. Youth can attend as an individual or as a member of a group. A group sponsor is encouraged but not required. Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2014. More information and application forms are available at or by contacting Kincaid at 866-FYI-TEEN (866-394-8336) or
