Beatrice, NE (AP) - Traubel's Popcorn Stand has reappeared in Beatrice, more than two decades after closing.

The Beatrice Daily Sun says Thursday's grand opening drew hundreds of people downtown for a ceremony that included food, games and live music. Some people waited in line for more than two hours to sample the popcorn.

Lora Young is executive director of the Beatrice Area Chamber of Commerce, and she says many longtime Beatrice residents have fond memories of Traubel's Popcorn Stand.

John and Stella Traubel opened the stand in 1937, and it was closed in 1987. In January 2013 Community Possibilities Inc. began raising the more than $7,000 needed to construct a new stand.
