Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The program is called "Sentimental Journey". AMR is giving hospice care patients here in Cheyenne a chance to do something that not only do they love, but something that would never have happened without the program.
For seniors in hospice care, health issues make life difficult. It also makes it difficult to do some of the things they used to love doing.
"In the hospice program, unfortunately a lot of the patients don't get the chance to complete some of those final things that they'd like to do," said Sam Clarke with American Medical Response.
Tony Savicki is a patient at Davis Hospice Center in Cheyenne who relies on oxygen tanks to breathe. He’s often dreamed of being able to do some of the things he used to.
"I said if something does happen up here, what are we going to do medical wise?" said Savicki.
That’s where AMR steps in, giving patients like Tony an opportunity to create those beloved memories once again.
"I was totally jazzed all over it. Because it's something I've been wanting to do," Savicki said.
He knew exactly what he wanted to do on his journey with his buddy Al.
"We'll be going fishing for the day."
Now Tony is counting down the days till he and Al can sit by the lake again with a fishing pole in hand.
"It's to make your dreams come true. Priceless. That's all you can really say."
AMR will be there to make sure Tony has plenty of oxygen and assistance in case of a medical issue. Wyoming Game and Fish has even taken care of donating his fishing license for the day.
"Bad day fishing is better than a good day at work," Savicki said.
AMR hopes to be able to take Tony and Al on their fishing trip on Monday.
