Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - The C130s have been in use at the Wyoming Air National Guard for more than 20 years.
The Adjutants General Association of the United States are pushing for the upgrade of these air planes. "Now there are some older C130s in the fleet and there are some newer, basically all of them need to meet the same requirement for flying in international air space,” said Wyoming Military Department's Major General Luke Reiner.
To do that, these planes are in need of upgrades to their communication and navigation systems. "We think its very important to start upgrading lots of things on the aircraft," said Reiner.
The upgrades don't need to be complete until 2020, but with the large number of air crafts, that due date will come quickly.
"It depends on how much you want to do to the aircraft, if you take on a lot, you may not get all the aircraft upgraded by 2020, we think its very important to meet the minimum upgrade," said Reiner.
And the impact to the Air National Guard here in Wyoming will be dependent upon the upgrades that are passed by Congress.
"It is very important to the Air Force and to this nation that we keep these aircraft up to date and ready to fly wherever this nation needs them," said Reiner.
