Gillette, WY (AP) - Gillette's Monday yard-watering ban kicks in again on June 1.

The Gillette News-Record reported Sunday the ban lasts until Oct. 1.

The drought forecast is improving for this summer, but Michael Foote, the city's sustainability coordinator, says city officials are planning for the worst.

The city began the water conservation program in 2006, asking residents to voluntarily not water on Mondays.

The City Council passed an ordinance banning Monday watering a few years later. Last year, the city added a $100 fine for the first violation, with an additional $50 for subsequent offenses up to $250 per violation.

Foote says no tickets were issued last year. He says when officials received complaints, they they spoke with the offenders about the ordinance and the possible penalties.
