Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - High winds have grounded the Air Guard and U.S. Forest Service's airborne fire fighting training until the end of the week.
The 153rd Airlift Wing has been flying their C-130s in MAFFS missions since 1975.
Trained crews were deployed in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and California during the 2012 fire season and they're ready for the call this year.
"These fires are getting bigger, they're getting more frequent and they're in more populated areas," said Major Neil Harlow of the Wyoming Air National Guard's 153rd Airlift Wing. "It's good knowing that we have these assets here that can be called upon and launched to help assist in protecting property and eventually maybe even lives."
