Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - After several months of planning and preparation, the new Community Garden at Laramie County Community College will open this May.
Reservations are now open for the garden. Each plot is six feet by twelve feet, and the cost is $15 for each area. Anyone in the community is eligible to rent a plot for the upcoming growing season.
On Saturday, May 24, a work day will take place at the community garden for people to prepare their land.
The garden is located on the north part of campus, west of the LCCC Arena.
Participants need only provide the seeds and plant materials. The college will provide a community tool shed and composting bins, as well as water for each plot.
Additionally, for those that don’t garden, there will be a community area where people are welcome to obtain vegetables at no cost.
"Community gardens are an innovative way to bring the campus and the community together,” said Jeri Griego, who is leading this project for the college. “It gives people an opportunity for some great outdoor activity, for healthy eating options and even to save money.”
This project is made possible thanks to funding from the college’s service learning program, a Golden Apple Grant from the LCCC Foundation, and donations from various groups and individual sin the community.
