Legislative Report

Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - A special session of the Wyoming Legislature is a step closer to reality.
And LCCC faring well in the state budget.
NewsChannel 5’s Robert Geha reports from State Capitol.

The bill calling for a special session to deal with the fallout from the Wyoming Supreme Court decision in the Cindy Hill case passes a final vote in the Senate.
Plenty of amendments on Senate File 106.
It heads to the House.
One area of the state budget of interest to Cheyenne residents is the 18 million dollars to LCCC toward a new student center and an industrial technology building.
That’s two million less than requested.
You’ll recall last November, Cheyenne voters passed a bond issue of up to 25 million dollars for the 42 to 45 million dollar project.
Either LCCC can scale the total project back by two million or make up the difference from the bond issue.
Bahmer also says the fairly new Health Sciences Building at the college is one example of good stewardship while meeting the demands of today’s society.
Sticking with construction, the Capitol Square bill passes the House on a second vote.
Senate File 103 uses up to 259 million dollars to renovate the Capitol and add on to the Herschler Building.
Supporter Dan Zwonitzer says the main push for the project, the Legislature has been saving for, for 10 years, is for larger committee rooms for more public participation.
The bill to add 9 ½ million dollars to the Game and Fish budget to pay for higher health care costs for employees is waiting for a first House vote.
Game and Fish covers healthcare costs out of hunting and fishing fees. But the agency is coming up short these days and asking the legislature for the money.
We asked Bob Wharff of Wyoming Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife, why not let Game and Fish raise fees… something the agency hasn’t done since 08.
We’ll follow that bill for you and a host of others Wednesday. I’m Robert Geha reporting from the State Capitol, back to you.
