Rock Springs, WY (AP) - The Rock Springs hospital is changing air ambulance providers starting July 1, when the University of Utah's AirMed service takes over.

The Rock Springs Rocket-Miner reports Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County announced Wednesday it isn't renewing its contract with Guardian Flight, its provider for the past three years.

George Lemich, attorney for the hospital's board of trustees, says the change makes sense because the University of Utah's Health Services will start providing doctors for the hospital emergency room starting Sept. 1. Lemich says the Rock Springs hospital has strong ties with the university.

At a board meeting Wednesday, Adam Hatch of Guardian Flight asked why Guardian wasn't allowed to bid on the contract again. Lemich said state law gives the hospital the right to choose its service providers.
