Cheyenne, WY (KGWN) - WYDOT held its annual State Transportation Improvement Program meeting for Laramie County Wednesday morning.

Over the next six years, WYDOT will be shifting gears from a transportation improvement program to a pavement preservation program.

WYDOT District Engineer Pat Persson says they plan to dedicate about 2/3 of their funding towards taking care of existing roadways.

"Our funding situation right now is that we're short some funds to take care of what we have and so there will still be deterioration in the system," said Persson. "Some of the roads that are in very poor shape will get in worse shape and we'll try to slow down that deterioration with preservation-type projects."

Some of the big projects WYDOT has in the works include mill and overlay work on I-80 between Cheyenne and Laramie as well as bridge work on I-80 near Pine Bluffs.
