CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Incumbent Wyoming Treasurer Mark Gordon emphasized in a debate last night in Riverton that Wyoming's multi-billion dollar portfolio demands professional management. Ron Redo of Cheyenne is challenging Gordon for the Republican Party nomination. Redo's experience includes time as an auditor for the state of California.

MANDAN, N.D. (AP) — A man responsible for the deaths of more than 100 horses in western North Dakota is accused of violating probation terms by buying a horse. Prosecutors yesterday petitioned to revoke 64-year-old William Kiefer's probation. The petition says Kiefer bought a horse from a Powell, Wyoming, woman for $2,000. Kiefer is also accused of failing to follow through with court-ordered mental health services.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — Yellowstone National Park officials want to remove about 900 bison next winter through hunting, shipments to slaughter and for research purposes. Officials say removing the animals will relieve population pressures that periodically push large numbers of migrating bison into Montana during harsh winters. Hunters and government agencies removed 640 bison last winter.

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The University of Wyoming athletics department plans to take advantage of new NCAA rules that will allow the school to provide unlimited food for its athletes on top of what they provide in meal plans and stipends from scholarships. Deputy director Matt Whisenant tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle newspaper that UW is taking an aggressive approach to better feed its 350-400 athletes.
