Cheyenne, WY (AP) - The Wyoming Senate has amended a bill aimed at enticing a New Jersey company to expand a pharmaceutical laboratory in Cody to include a procedure for handling other large economic development loans
Bill sponsor Sen. Hank Coe, R-Cody, told the Senate his bill is aimed at persuading Philadelphia-based Lannett Company to expand its drug-manufacturing lab in Cody. Coe said he favors extending nearly $25 million in state loans to the company because it promises hundreds of jobs.
The Senate gave its initial approval to the bill after adopting an amendment proposed by Laramie Republican Sen. Phil Nicholas adding language on handling other economic development loans.
Supporters say the amendment would address criticism the original bill could face constitutional problems because it was written specifically for the Cody project.
