LARAMIE, Wyo. (Sept. 3, 2014) – The University of Wyoming women’s soccer team continues its road swing on Friday with a match at Utah Valley in Orem, Utah. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MT. The Cowgirls are coming off two-consecutive losses but both came in overtime. Freshmen forwards Candace Sciberras and Kayla Cryer scored their first career goals as Cowgirls in those contests. Senior forward Kasey Curtis leads UW with two goals on season.
“It’s another tough road game and we need to be sharp,” Wyoming Head Coach Pete Cuadrado said. “They are coming off a big win versus Baylor last weekend.”
Last time vs. Utah Valley – The Cowgirls last met the Wolverines Sept. 16, 2012, at the Louis S. Madrid Sport Complex and emerged with a 4-3 victory. Wyoming jumped to a 2-0 lead in the first half with one goal at the nine minute mark and the other at the 12-minute mark, but UVU answered with three goals within five minutes. The Cowgirls tied the contest in the second half at the 52-minute mark and eventually won in overtime off a free kick. Wyoming has won all five contests against the Wolverines in a series that dates back to 2007.
The Wolverines’ last contest was a 1-1- tie with Boise State last Sunday. The Wolverines scored their first goal in the first half at the 35-minute mark from 10 yards off the left post. Boise answered with a goal from inside the box into the lower left corner. Two overtimes were played but neither team found the back of the net.
