Nance Mountain West Player Of The Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 27, 2014) – Wyoming's Larry Nance Jr. has been named the Mountain West Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. The weekly accolade is the second of Nance's career and second of the season.

The junior forward helped Wyoming to a 66-59 road win at Air Force last Wednesday and a 64-62 overtime win against Nevada on Saturday. He averaged 19.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game in the two contests, while shooting 58.3 percent (14-of-24) from the field and 91.7 percent (11-of-12) at the free throw line. He committed just three turnovers over the two-game stretch. Against the Falcons, he tallied 20 points, nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 38 minutes. Ten of his 20 points and all three blocks came in the second half, as the Cowboys rallied from a 15-point first-half deficit for their largest comeback this season.

Nance played 44 minutes against the Wolf Pack, finishing with 19 points, three assists and two blocks, while matching his season-high of 13 rebounds. His biggest play came in overtime, as he hit a running hook shot in the lane with three seconds left for the game-winning basket. Nance has made three game-winning shots this season, including two in Wyoming's last four contests. UW's current four-game winning streak in the MW is its longest since February of 2009.

The Cowboys continue their season at Fresno State on Wednesday at 8 p.m. MT.
