FORT COLLINS, Colo. (April 5, 2014) – Junior Paul Thomas concluded action for the University of Wyoming track and field teams at Northern Colorado’s Tom Benich Invite with a winning throw of 180-9 in the discus on Saturday morning in Fort Collins, Colo. His season-best mark ranks third in the Mountain West, 17th in the West Region and 35th in the NCAA.
“We were a bit off technically, so we have some work to do to get things where we want them as the season progresses,” UW associate head coach Paul Barrett said. “We are in a heaving training load as well, so at this point in the season the body doesn’t always feel like doing things the way we want. We will get back to work and try and correct some things before next week’s meet in Boulder.”
Freshman Damon Unland threw 149-7 to finish sixth in the discus, while sophomore Tyler Anderson paced the Cowboys in the hammer at 181-11 for fourth. Unland tossed the hammer 167-4 for seventh, while junior Devin Garcia was eighth at 166-7. Two Cowgirls competed in the hammer, as junior Shreese Daniels was fourth at 176-5 and junior Katie Higgins was ninth at 158-1.
Wyoming continues its season at meets in Colorado and Utah on Friday and Saturday.
