LARAMIE, Wyo. (Feb. 14, 2014) – The Cowgirls were named an USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for the eight-straight year, while the Cowboys have done so for the last four years. Senior Garrett Zans became Wyoming’s first USTFCCCA All-Academic individual since Emily Higgins in 2008.

“This award really shows how dedicated our men and women are in the classroom as well,” UW head coach Bryan Berryhill said. “It shows the types of student-athletes that we recruit are not only aspiring to be great athletes, but also great students. Credit for this award also goes to the great support group that our teams have throughout the athletic department, specifically in Academics.”

The Cowgirls posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.74 to rank first among the seven Mountain West teams to earn the accolade. The Cowboys’ GPA of 3.26 was third among the four conference schools on the list. Of the 217 women’s programs and 160 men’s programs on the list, just 146 programs had both squads earn the honor. To qualify a team must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater for the 2013 roster and compete at the regional meet.

Zans became Wyoming’s first individual honoree in five years with a 3.44 GPA in electrical engineering. He was one of just two Mountain West men to claim the award and one of 72 in the nation. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or greater and earned All-America or All-Region accolades during the season.
