Katie Spencer joined the KGWN news team in June 2014. Growing up in Centennial, Colorado; she attended Colorado State University where she received her B.A. in Journalism and Technical Communications with a concentration in television news and video communication. She also minored in Political Science.
While at CSU, Katie worked at the campus television station, CTV, gaining experience both in front of and behind the camera. Her senior year she earned the promotion to Station Manager and led a staff of 40 people in producing a nightly newscast. Katie had the pleasure of live-anchoring a newscast when President Barack Obama visited the CSU campus, which was nominated for an Emmy. During her time at CTV, she had the opportunity to interview former Colorado Governor Bill Ritter, current Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, Hollywood director Lee Daniels and cover Condoleezza Rice’s visit to CSU.
Katie also interned at 9NEWS in Denver where she worked alongside experienced reporters and producers on large breaking news events including the High Park Fire, the Waldo Canyon Fire and the Aurora Theater Shooting. She also was an international reporter when she studied abroad in Italy and sent CTV stories from across Europe.
Katie grew up in the media world, helping her parents' production company. At a young age, she knew she loved telling stories and that passion has turned into a career. She also loves being outside, listening to records and spending time with family and friends.
