UW Offense Helps Take Pressure Off Defense

Laramie - 11/2/2008

By sustaining drives and scoring points early, Wyoming's offense helped take the pressure off John Fletcher and the entire Wyoming defense.
"Usually I think the hardest catches to make are the ones that are wide-open and you got the other sideline telling you not to drop it and kind of psyching you out but you don't want to drop one when everybody is watching you," said Wyoming receiver Brandon Stewart after catching a career-high 69 yard touchdown against the Aztecs. "That'd be embarrassing."
Luckily for Stewart and the Cowboys, San Diego State was the team embarrassed on Saturday.
"Baby Stewie" and Chris Stutzriem combine for the longest scoring play of the season and the running game compiles over 300 yards for the first time in eight years.
The offenses' ability to move the football in the first half took a lot of pressure off the defense and helped John Fletcher and the Cowboy defenders put the pressure on aztec quarterback Ryan Lindley.
"It was awesome," said Fletcher who totaled two sacks and six tackles against the Aztecs. "We got to sit down on the bench and get our legs back and previous games we've been taking 60 plays a game and I'm sure that was cut short."
