Muojeke Closing In On MWC Freshman Of The Year
Cheyenne - 2/17/2009
The Wyoming Cowboys haven't produced a freshman of the year since the 2001-2002 season when point guard Jay Straight won the honor. This year could be the year. Macradee Aegerter has the story. ((NAT SOUND)) "I try to do a little bit of everything. Be one of the leaders on and off the court." Afam Muojeke has done just that, averaging 15 points a game he is 7th in the conference and the only freshman among the top 20 scorers. "I don't like losing so I take that into perspective." But while he doesn't like losing, he says stats are not why he plays. "Basketball is my life. It's my job." ((NAT SOUND)) "Stats are not really important. Just hope to get wins, go out every night and try to get a win." Muojeke wasn't nabbed as pre-season freshman of the year but coach heath schroyer says there is no surprise in the 6 foot 7, forwards play. "I wouldn't trade him for any freshman in the league. He's gonna be a really special player here in the next couple of years." And there's no surprise from Muojeke either. "I'm mature enough to hold my own and the season's gonna finish out well." Muojeke is only 62 points away from breaking the all-time mountain west conference freshman scoring record which was actually set by teammate Brandon Ewing during the 05-06 season, which means Muojeke only has to average about 10.3 points per game to break the record.
