Sween Emerges as #1 QB Heading Into Fall Camp

Laramie - 4/25/2009

The top gunslinger in Wyoming's offense is Karsten Sween - for now.
He may not start at quarterback in September but it's Sween who distances himself from Dax Crum and Adam Barry after spring ball. Keep in mind transfer Robert Benjamin and true freshman Austyn Carta-Samuels arrive as intriguing QB prospects in a few months in Laramie.
New coach Dave Christensen not exactly a happy camper throughout the Brown and Gold spring game. But he did say it's a fair assessment that Sween is the number one quarterback heading into fall camp.
"D.C." plans to put a depth chart together on Monday.
Sween completes 16 of 34 passes, throws a TD and but lots of receivers had a case of Butterfingers.
Darius Terry and Brandon Stewart both score rushing touchdowns with Stewie taking it on the Reverse!

- Adam Barry completes just 7 of 24 attempts (picked off by T.J. Atwater)
Offense as a whole: 3 TD's, 2 interceptions, Zero fumbles.

The Number one offense finishes on a good note, capping off a 2 minute drill with Sween finding David Leonard for a touchdown!

The Brown team delivers with a 20-3 victory and from what I saw, two of the four captains should get game balls. On offense, running back Darius Terry finishes with 84 total yards and runs for 4.5 yards per carry.
On defense, linebacker Weston Johnson gets the nod after compiling a team-high 9 tackles.
Despite these positives, lots of players dropped passes and coach Christensen made it clear that cannot continue.
"Our ability to catch the football was just horrible today and that wasn't the wind," said Christensen. "Some of it was courage, which I challenged them afterwards but bottom line is we're gonna put players on there that can catch the football. If you can't play catch you can't play in this offense."
"We had way too many drops, way too many mental errors, we'll get it corrected but we definitely didn't play as well as we wanted too," acknowledged WR David Leonard who had 4 catches for 39 yards and a TD. "It wasn't our best scrimmage or our best practice today."
