Cheyenne PD Helps Pine Bluffs PD

Posted: Updated:

On Monday the Cheyenne City Council met to discuss several issues, among them accepting money on behalf of the Cheyenne Police Department from the City of Pine Bluffs.

"It's just the right thing to do" said Cheyenne City Councilman Jim Brown. "We're neighbors... if your neighbor asks for help, hopefully you'd be more than willing to help that person."

Before the City of Cheyenne agreed to help, the Pine Bluffs Police Chief was working seven days a week.  "He's looking for some days off. He's been working everyday straight" explained Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak.

Kozak recently granted a request from the Pine Bluffs Police Chief for a Mutual Aid Agreement.  Since then, Cheyenne officers have been assigned to patrol Pine Bluffs two days out of the week.

The City of Pine Bluffs has agreed to pay for all expenses.  However, before the City of Cheyenne can accept money from the City of Pine Bluffs, the Cheyenne City Council must approve.

The issue will be discussed in more detail at a finance committee meeting set for next Monday.

Under the Mutual Aid Agreement, Cheyenne police have full state authority and arrest powers in Pine Bluffs.  The Pine Bluffs Police Chief has requested help through mid March.
