Governor Mead Co-Chairs Sage Grouse Task Force

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and the Bureau of Land Management's director are co-chairs of a task force protecting sage grouse.

The task force will look for ways to protect the bird and their habitats.

The task force approach comes after a December meeting in Cheyenne where Interior Secretary Ken Salazar met with officials from ten states. They considered ways to protect sage grouse from being listed under the Federal Endangered Species Act.

Some officials say federal protections for the bird could hinder energy development across the west.
