The owners of the two pit bulls suspected of killing a miniature pony last Saturday, says their dogs didn't do it and the pony may have died from exposure to the cold.
But Cheyenne Animal Shelter Director Rick Collord says when the dogs were captured they were covered in blood.
Melissa Blair and her boyfriend say they've hired a livestock attorney to get her two female pit bulls back that are being held at the shelter.
The 8-year-old pony, Spirit, belonged to Laramie County resident Linda Clark.
Her veterinarian Chad Zadina says a post-mortem he did on the pony shows Spirit died of an attack, rather than exposure.
He says if Spirit was already dead when the dogs found him, there would not have been the large amount of blood found at the scene.
State law says any animal killing livestock must be executed by its owner if the owner knew about it.
