The man woke up to flames covering the front porch and the smell of smoke, but was able to get out of the home and call 911.
Laramie County Fire District #2 responded to the structure fire at 6606 Braehill Road around 4:40 a.m.. Firefighters reported flames coming from the front side of the home, extending into the attic.
Firefighters say the wood stove, installed just Thursday, wasn't installed properly. They say the flu through the attic and the roof was insufficient to prevent heat build-up. Authorities say heavy charring of the wood braces between the ceiling and roof were found.
Luckily, The fire had not spread inside the home.
Public Information Officer, Lew Simpson says it could've been a lot worse, especially since the house had no smoke detectors installed. "We have given Mr. Webb a smoke detector to be installed in the home and will contact the owner of the property, Junior Elmore, to recommend and supply more smoke detectors for the home," said Simpson. "Installation of smoke detectors cannot be overemphasized."
