Ag Equipment Thefts Plague Laramie County

Posted: Updated:

There's been an upswing in thefts across Laramie County, all dealing with agricultural equipment and scrap metal.

According to the Laramie County Sheriff's Department, the stolen items all came from rural areas in Laramie County. They include three antique International Harvester Tractors, a 500 gallon propane tank, pipe iron, 18 rolls of copper wire and John Deere farming implements (discs, field choppers and a grain drill). Because these items are so large and because some of them may have required multiple trips, investigators believe the thieves put some planning into these schemes.

Also reported stolen were gates, panels, feed racks, and a large amount of scrap iron. Some of the thefts have exceeded $20,000 in value.

Currently the majority of the reports have been in the Burns area. The Sheriff's Department says farmers and ranchers should frequently check their implements, or consider placing a remote camera around their valuable equipment and other items.

Anyone with any information on these thefts should contact the Laramie County Sheriff's Department or Silent Witness at (307) 638-TIPS (633-8477) where you can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
