The incident happened two miles north of Wheatland around 3:00 a.m. Tuesday. The tractor trailer was carrying 210 barrels of crude oil and it's estimated about 800 gallons of that spilled onto the road.
According to the driver, Torin Williams, 55, from Johnstown, Colorado, the semi was driving north on the interstate when he swerved to avoid a deer. No citations were issued.
Wyoming Highway Patrol worked closely with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Wheatland Fire Department, Platte County Sheriff's Department, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security during the investigation and cleanup process.
Traffic was diverted onto WYO 320 at Wheatland for northbound traffic and at the US 26 Junction for southbound traffic.
