NEWS RELEASE: Cheyenne Police Department
The Cheyenne Police Department in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Agency will be set up at Walgreens Store at 2304 East Lincolnway for the nationwide Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
On Saturday, September 29, citizens in the area will have an opportunity to dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs between 10:00am and 2:00pm. The program is set up to allow pre-scription drugs to be disposed of in a safe manner. By disposing of prescription drugs through this program citizens can impede juveniles from easily obtaining unauthorized prescription drugs. Currently prescription drug over doses in youth have surpassed the illicit drug overdoses in youth. Most juveniles are obtaining unauthorized prescription drugs from the home and prescription drug abuse is on the rise among youth.
If citizens are unable to stop by on Saturday they are encouraged to stop by the Cheyenne Police Department Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 5:00pm. A drug drop box is located in the lobby and may be used to anonymously dispose of prescription pills and patches.
