On Tuesday Interior Secretary Ken Salazar made a big announcement: plans are moving forward with the Chokecherry and Sierra Madre Wind Energy Project outside of Rawlins.
The project will be the world's largest wind farm. It could have up to 1,000 wind turbines and generate enough electricity to power 1,000,000 homes.
Besides that, it'll create 1,000 construction jobs and 114 new permanent operations and maintenance jobs.
Construction won't start for several years.
Power Company of Wyoming, LLC is building the wind farm. It'll be on public, private and state lands.
