Kurt Maddox joined the Newschannel 5 sports team in October of 2012.
Kurt has been involved in some sort of broadcasting since the age of 17. After high school, he joined the United States Navy. He served three years on the USS Philippine Sea and three years at the Naval Media Center in Puerto Rico at the Roosevelt Roads Naval Station. He was a radio DJ and television host while in Puerto Rico.
After the Navy, Kurt graduated from Vincennes University in southern Indiana with a broadcasting degree. He got his first chance in TV at WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was there from 2006-2010. Kurt also worked at KRDO in Colorado Springs. He was mainly a news photographer but worked with the sports departments when they needed help.
In his spare time, Kurt is either out walking his four year old yellow lab Hugh or do anything related to sports. He grew up in Indiana so basketball is in his blood but baseball and bowling are the sports he grew up playing.
Kurt loves covering local sports and loves hearing about extraordinary stories of overcoming adversity or achieving something that everyone said wasn't possible. People once told him he would never be a sports reporter on TV and he proved them wrong. So don't hesitate to contact him and tell him your story or a story of a local extraordinary athlete.
