The 13-year-old who attempted suicide on Sunday is recovering at a hospital in Littleton, Colorado.
The young lady's mother tells NewsChannel 5 her daughter's physical recovery is going well but the long-term effects of the bullying that led to her suicide attempt will linger.
Over the last couple of years, she says teens at McCormic Junior High have continually made racial slurs toward her daughter and called her names.
Jamie Nabozny is an anti-bullying activist. This week, he's in Wyoming sharing his story. In junior high, he was bullied for being gay. Administrators at his Wisconsin school failed to protect him. He eventually took them to court in a landmark case and won.
He has two messages for kids who are bullied. First, they're not alone. And second, everyone has the right to feel safe.
