Power Outage Frustrates Local Restaurant

Posted: Updated:

For some, losing power on Sunday was an inconvenience. For others, it was a business nightmare.

On Sunday over 900 Cheyenne Light, Fuel & Power customers lost power. One was Quiznos. The restaurant's owner, Bill Wilbourne, said he feared the food in his refrigerator, about $3,000 worth, would go bad.

He called Cheyenne Light and was transferred to corporate call centers in South Dakota and Nebraska. They didn't have any local information.

Cheyenne Light's local office doesn't take phone calls on weekends.

Fortunately, Wilbourne's food was ok. The power outage only lasted about an hour. Cheyenne Light said it was caused by a squirrel.

Wilbourne said he wants the power company to improve its chain of communication with customers.

Cheyenne Lights said its working on automated call system that will notify customers in these types of situations. It's expected to be up and running within the next few months.
