Precursors for Meth Lab Found in Laramie

Posted: Updated:

A scare in Laramie Friday, as police found the precursors of a meth lab in a home near several schools.

Police spokesman, Commander M. Cushman, says the lab was found in the 1500 block of north 9th at 1:50 p.m. Officers were there investigating credit fraud when they found the makings of a lab. They then called the Division of Criminal Investigation to assist them.

Julia Lynn Scott, 34, was arrested for Conspiracy to Manufacture a Controlled Substance, which can carry up to 20 years in jail, a $25,000 fine or both. Another resident was missing during the investigation and authorities thought the person may be armed. This prompted the Laramie Police Department to advise several schools in the area to go on lock down. Cushman says five ended up doing so.

The second suspect, Shawn Albert Scott, was seen by police in his vehicle. Police say he later escaped on foot, leaving the weapon behind. At that time, the schools were allowed to lift the lock down.

Laramie Police continue to look for 38-year-old Scott. The describe him as white, 5'11'', 215 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing a silver "Bulls" jacket or hoodie and camo pants. Cushman says Scott has a previous address in Cheyenne. If you see this man or have information that could lead police to him you're asked to call (307) 721-5376 or the 24-hour number at (307) 721-2526.

Laramie PD and DCI continue their investigation, but say "it does not appear there is a current threat to the community."
