Laramie County Fire District #2 has sent a front line fire engine, a support vehicle and a crew of five volunteer firefighters to Estes Park Colorado. The equipment and crew were requested to support firefighting efforts on the Fern Lake fire burning nearby.
The fire which started in the Rocky Mountain National Park on October 9th has increased in size dramatically in recent days. Windblown embers and fire has threatened many homes in the area resulting in mandatory and voluntary evacuations.
The five man crew from Fire District #2 will join the more than 250 firefighters from around the country in stopping the fire from advancing towards the town of Estes Park. It is estimated that the crew will be deployed for up to 14-days. If the fire continues past that time, other crews will be sent to relieve the current volunteers.
