Press Release: Wyoming Department of Education
WDE responds to LSO Liaison report Nov. 14 report by Legislative Service Office liaisons Tuesday in Cheyenne.
"Facts are important and it is critical that everyone understands the work that has been accomplished and how we are going to go forward," said Hill.
Hill stated the Department's response to the LSO report has been released and posted on the WDE website. The department's 541-page response included an introductory letter from Hill and nearly 500 pages of supporting documentation in response to the LSO report. Hill said the department responded to all their claims and the WDE response centered around two key areas:
The Educational Accountability Pilot Model: The Pilot Accountability model is a calculation of the school performance levels. WDE model is a proof of concept that such a model could be built. It was not necessarily intended to be the final version, however was required under Section 5 of Enrolled Act 65.
Statewide System of Support: A Statewide System of Support offers guidelines for support measures and consequences for schools determined to be underperforming. The System of Support document was developed after meetings with legislators, teachers, the state board of education, administrator, parents, school board members, business community leaders and LSO liaisons.
Hill said the State Department of Education has made significant progress in each of these areas and is eager to share that information as well as collaborate on the areas of agreement with the LSO liaisons and the Legislature.
"I am glad we are having the discussion and it is important that the work the Legislature did last session is put into an operational model," Hill said.
