NEWS RELEASE: LightsOn! a Wyoming Non-profit

Watch out New York City! Cheyenne's 2nd annual New Year's Eve Ball Drop will once again ring in the New Year for Cheyenne residents and visitors at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza on December 31, 2012.

A 75-ton crane will gently lower a 300 lb. steel ball with over 200 lbs. of LED lights to the plaza floor at the stroke of midnight. In addition, the event will feature fireworks, a laser countdown on the Depot tower, music, food vendors, and other surprises. Initial music and festivities will begin at approximately 11:00 p.m.

The public is invited to this family-friendly, free event. Last year, an estimated 4,500 spectators attended the Ball Drop.

Local hoteliers are offering special lodging packages for New Year's revelers.

LightsOn! created the Ball Drop as its contribution to bring vitality to downtown Cheyenne. Other major sponsors to the event include the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority, Simon Contractors, Townesquare Media, KGWN TV, CH Yarber Construction, Pioneer Printing, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Lamar Outdoor, Visit Cheyenne, Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce, City of Cheyenne, Capital Lumber, First Interstate Bank, Cheyenne Frontier Days, Anne & Eric Miller, Bob and Jill Jensen, Shadow's Pub/Suite 1901, Puma Steel, Jonah Bank, Albany Restaurant, and the Cheyenne Depot Museum.

The mission of LightsOn! is to create a new economic anchor in downtown Cheyenne founded on the arts. LightsOn! successfully opened the historic Hynds Building across from Depot Square after twenty-five years of vacancy. It plans to create an international mentor-artist in residence program in the Hynds for regional students.
