Text Message Scam Hits Cheyenne

A text message scam that has swept the nation has hit Cheyenne again.

A Cheyenne woman says she often completes the online surveys at the bottom of retail receipts then earlier this week she received a text message that appeared to be from Target.

"That said I had actually won and to go to Targetwinner.com and enter a code and I had to do it within 24 hours and I would be rewarded $1,000 gift card," said Shirley Anderson.

The text was from a 318 area code and Anderson says she was immediately suspicious, so she called Target to she if she could get verification on whether she had won the gift card.

The Target representative told Anderson that her suspicions were correct and the text message she had received was indeed a scam.

"The only registered website for Target was Target.com and targetwinner.com was not actually something that was licensed by the Target stores and he advised me not to go into the website," Anderson said.
