If you plan on toasting tonight with Champaign, perhaps having a few cocktails, remember to find a safe ride home.
If you don't it could cost you.
Cheyenne Police and the Wyoming Highway Patrol have said they will have extra officers on patrol tonight looking for impaired drivers.
If you're willing to get the behind the wheel tonight after a few celebratory drinks, be prepared to face a stiff penalty.
"A first time offender, I'd say it's fair it'll cost anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000 depending on the complications of each case," said Tara Nethercott, Attorney with Woodhouse Roden LLC.
The costs of a DUI doesn't end there. It's going to cost between $750 and $3,000 to get out of jail depending on where the judge sets your bond.
Since tomorrow is new year's day, you won't get in front of a judge until Wednesday. Meaning you'll be spending the holiday in jail.
You'll also lose your driver's license and need to find an alternative mode of transportation.
The entire process of going through a DUI takes months and it's simply not worth it.
"It's devastating, it's embarrassing. You usually have to tell your employer because you've been incarcerated for a period of time. You've missed out on work. You don't go home to your family and your kids. You have to pay for the lawyer. Everything is extremely expensive and it's a difficult process," Nethercott said.
If it's not your first offense, Nethercott told says a repeat offender it could end up costing them as much as $20,000.
