Polar Plunge Honors the Late Matthew Schwartz

Posted: Updated:

On Saturday around 60 swimmers plunged into the icy pond at Lions Park in honor of the late Matthew Schwartz.

The first annual Matthew Schwartz Memorial Polar Plunge kicked off at 1 PM. Temperatures only reached about 35 degrees but that didn't stop any of the swimmers. Many of them say they would have made the plunge no matter the temperature.

Schwartz died in the line of duty last January. He was serving in Afghanistan with the U.S. Air Force.

Besides honoring Schwartz, the plunge raised money for the Wounded EOD Warriors fund which helps EOD members hurt in the line of duty and the families of those killed.
