In response to the Sandy Hook shootings, Laramie County School District 1 is installing buzzer systems at seven of its schools.
Bain Elementary is one school to get the new technology. Visitors simply call the office using a call box outside the front doors. A small camera on the call box lets the school secretary see who's outside. He or she can then unlock the door. After being let in visitors are asked to sign in.
Superintendent Mark Stock says the buzzer system gives parents and the community peace of mind. "As far as providing increased security, it perhaps doesn't" he says. "But it does allow a school to say 'we know who's coming in and out of the building.'"
Laramie County School District 1 still reviewing the security at all of its schools.
