Our Kids: Temper Tantrums

Five tips to help work your way through a temper tantrum.

1. Calm House Makes A Calm Child!

Children who feel a lot of stress in the house have MORE tantrums.

Follow a routine. Kids are calmer when they know what's coming.

Well-rested children have fewer tantrums.

2. Pick Your Battles!

Ignore What You Can. Don't say no unless you have to.

If they learn that tantrums get them what they want, they'll keep using them.

If you see a tantrum coming, try and distract them.

3. Avoid Problem Situations!

Sometimes we set ourselves up for battles. Parenting is tough and if you know certain situations are difficult it's ok to avoid them.

4. Keep Cool!

The calmer you are, the faster and easier the whole thing will blow over. Take a few breaths and remind yourself, tantrums are normal.

5. After the Tantrum!

Don't hold a grudge. Your child didn't do it to hurt you. They didn't know a better way to express how they felt.
