Gay Marriage, Civil Unions Bills Gain Support

Posted: Updated:

Two Republican lawmakers are backing bills to either allow gay marriage or same-sex civil unions in Wyoming.

Reps. Ruth Ann Ann Petroff and Keith Gingery of Teton County now support House Bills 168 and 169.

House Bill 168 would legalize same-sex civil unions. House Bill 169 would legalize gay marriage.

Democratic Rep. Cathy Connolly of Albany County drafted the legislation. "We're the Equality State. I think it's important for us to stand up to our moniker" she says.

There are also lawmakers against the bills. Republican Rep. Allen Jaggie of Uinta County doesn't support either. "I think marriage is between a man and a woman" he says.

Both bills have been introduced and numbered. They still have yet to go to committee.
