Local gun store owners are enjoying business right now, but that may all change if soon to be proposed gun legislation is passed through Congress.
The gun control debate has surged since the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. The possibility of stricter gun laws has caused current and first time gun buyers to flock to gun stores, making business good, for now.
However, if the assault weapons ban and the requirement of limitations on magazine clip capacity is proposed and passed by Congress, gun shops here and across the country could be looking at a substantial dent in sales. One local gun store owner said that assault-like weapons make up roughly twenty percent of sales, so he could take quite a hit if the ban is enacted.
Talk of gun legislation may be good for sales now, but if all of it actually passes, gun store owners will be looking at some tough times down the road.
