New Wyoming Lottery Bill Could Affect Stores Across Border

Posted: Updated:

Wyoming may soon be able to take part in multi-state lotteries, such as Powerball and if that happens, stores just across the border into Colorado could see a huge impact on business.

House Bill 77 just  vote with a second one coming up tomorrow.  If the bill makes it to the senate and they approve it, it could land on Governor Mead's desk sometime in February.  If he signs it, the Powerball lottery would officially begin on July 1st.

While this may be good news for Wyoming residents who want the lottery, it could spell disaster for the Borderline Cantina just across the state line into Colorado.  For years, that store has been reaping the benefits of Wyoming not having a lottery.

With so many customers coming from Cheyenne and other parts of Wyoming to buy Powerball tickets, the store will certainly face some losses in the future.
