Education Board Moves Forward With Director Search

Posted: Updated:

On Monday the Wyoming State Board of Education voted to hire a search firm to help find a director for the Department of Education.

The Board voted unanimously after hearing a recommendation given by Governor Matt Mead.

Until the director position is filled, Governor Mead has appointed Dr. Jim Rose as Interim Director. Rose says he's trying to define his role in relation to Cindy Hill, Superintendent of Public Instruction. Much of her power has been stripped and given to the new director position.

It's unclear how long Rose will be the Interim Director. The Board doesn't have a timeline for finding a firm or hiring a permanent director.

Once the firm is hired, it will compile a list of candidates. The Board will then narrow that list down to three for the Governor to choose from.
