It's not secret, moms work very hard. They often work outside of the home and then
when they come home they work another 8 hours caring for their home, spouse, and
children. Moms have a never-ending list. When this list gets longer, their plan is
simply to work harder. A good work ethic is important for success, but let's also look
around and see what else is happening in the family.
Mom looks up from her never-ending list and sees that her capable children and
loving partner are sitting on the couch watchIng the television...and have been doing
so for some time...while she has been working. This creates a flash of anger which
she quickly squelches as she doesn't want to be upset with those she loves.
TIPS FOR MOMS:
1. Understand that your over-functioning is not good for you and not good for
your children.
A. You are tired and need some assistance.
B. They are learning that they don't have to contribute to the family.
C. They are entitled to the benefits without any responsibility.
2. Use your anger and frustration to recruit help from other family members.
A. Request assistance...recruit assistance...demand assistance.
3. Delegate responsibility and negotiate acceptable performance levels.
A. They can do the job...they need to learn how to do the job.
B. They won't do the job like you would, but everything doesn't have to be
completed to your performance level.
C. Don't let their poor performance push you away from your expectations.
4. Take time for some self-care.
A. It is a good example to take care of yourself-especially for your daughter and
your son.
B. Figure out what you can do to relax and refresh yourself....and do it!
