Governor Mead announced yet another major donation to the University of Wyoming by an oil and gas company.
"Today, we are announcing that UW has formed a partnership with ExxonMobil totaling more than $2.5 million. I want to thank ExxonMobil, who has come here today and I want to thank them for this tremendous, generous gift," Mead said.
The ExxonMobil contribution will be matched by the state, which will make the total gift $5 million. The matching funds come from a $15 million dollar fund set aside by the legislature during last year's session.
It's for partnerships to help UW's advancement of energy programs. ExxonMobil's contribution will support laboratory equipment for the improved recovery program, part of the new Center for Advanced Oil and Gas Technologies.
"We fully support the important work they're doing to enhance higher education in the state, specifically in the energy field. By investing in energy and technology, an even greater number of students will be able to contribute to the challenges that our country faces with energy development," said Randy Broiles, Vice-President of Americas at ExxonMobil Production Company.
