Looming Budget Cuts To Affect Airport

Posted: Updated:

The future of Cheyenne Regional Airport is uncertain with possible budget cuts associated with the sequestration.  The FAA is looking at cutting $600 million out of their budget if no deal is reached regarding the sequestration.  The FAA Contract Tower Program would take a brunt of the hit and the airport here in Cheyenne falls under that program.

According to Dave Haring, the Director of Aviation at the airport, says that its difficult to figure out exactly what will happen and what is simply being threatened.  He believes that over the next month they'll really get a better idea of potential impacts and some steps to take in response.

As it stands now, 168 contract towers nationwide would be closed on April 1st.  Another 21, which includes Cheyenne, would close on September 30th.
