Department of Education Not Able to Provide Data for LSO

Posted: Updated:

Interim Director of the Wyoming Department of Education, Jim Rose, says it doesn't have enough data to give to the Legislative Service Office for it's end-of-the-session financial report.

In a letter to the Joint Education Committee co-chairs he explains why.

Because of employee turnover within the last 26 months, there are seven vacant positions in their Information Management department.

The data has been administered by multiple individuals and there haven't been consistent standards. The data they provide affects funding for school districts across the state.

Rose says they want to take their time to make sure the information they provide is correct.

"My reason for addressing it with the co-chairs of the education committee is to have it clear that we are addressing it. It's not to make excuses. It's not to ask for some kind of free pass. We are going to get the job done. We are going to do the work we need to do. It's just that in some cases take us longer," Rose said.
