Roundabout Construction Scheduled
To Start On Monday, April 15
CHEYENNE – Construction on the new modern-day roundabout at the intersection of Converse Avenue/East 19th Street/East Pershing Boulevard is scheduled to start on Monday, April 15, weather permitting.
This is a $4.5 million project. The City's Fifth Penny Sales Tax is funding the street, sidewalk and storm sewer improvements while the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities is funding water improvements at the intersection.
The modern-day roundabout will improve safety at the intersection. Roundabouts average 60 percent fewer injury crashes and the severity of crashes is reduced. "This modern-day roundabout will make the intersection safer for the 41,000 motorists that use that intersection on a daily basis," said Acting City Engineer Nathan Beauheim. "This roundabout will reduce traffic congestion and will route higher volumes of traffic than traditional intersections."
Construction is expected to be completed this fall with landscaping work taking place in the spring of 2014.
During construction, motorists can expect the intersection to be open with lane restrictions and during portions of the construction motorists will be restricted in the direction of travel. Detours will be posted when necessary, but motorists are encouraged to find an alternate route if their destination is not in this area.
All business will be open with public access during construction.
Simon Contractors is the general contractor on the project.
