Big O Tires held a car giveaway contest for the first time and has awarded Jamie Barton with the vehicle. Ms. Barton is a single mother of three who has overcome much in her life. Play the video for more details on the contest and on Ms. Barton.
Ms. Barton was nominated by more than a dozen other people to receive the car from Big O Tires. Her story is below.
Jamie is a 28 year old single mother of three small children, aged 7, 6 and 5. As a victim of domestic abuse, Jamie has made remarkable strides to get her life back on track and be the best parent and mother she can possibly be to these three young men.
The domestic abuse she suffered in 2004 resulted in her experiencing a stroke on her 19th birthday. She has fought back from these obstacles and is very determined in her life goals and those of her children. Recently, Jamie was successful in gaining full-time employment with the Bureau of Land Management in Cheyenne and has proven on a daily basis just how determined she is to get her life back by being an outstanding federal employee. However, the one obstacle she has yet to overcome is transportation to and from work. Jamie currently pays taxi fees of $20 per day or approximately $400 per month, significantly decreasing her amount of take home pay. Furthermore, any grocery store trips, doctors' visits, meetings at the children's school, etc. all add to this total. Planning her life around the availability of a taxi has been very frustrating. However, with the amount of money she is paying out for these fees, she is unable to put money aside to purchase a vehicle while still providing for her children.
Barton is a Cheyenne resident, has a positive outlook on her future,
and is not afraid to take the necessary steps to ensure a brighter
future for her and her children. Anyone that meets Jamie is instantly
captivated by her infectious smile and her love for life. She is very
proud of her children and is in desperate need of her own vehicle. This
contest displays the commitment of local business leaders to assist a
deserving citizen and reflects positively on Cheyenne as a whole. Ms.
Jamie Barton is very deserving of this prize and it would greatly assist
her in achieving her goals.
